I am going to Vegas to see THIS. You know you are jealous.
And, I can hardly wait. :)
I have absolutely NOTHING exciting going on right now to blog about. My family is NOT supplying me with good writing material. However, Dale is working a 48 right now, so that is generally when the kids do something naughty or interesting.
I went to WW yesterday, and the gym today for the second day in a row this week. I have lost another pound...but am still up a couple since prior to the cruise.
Dale and I have been getting ready for the community wide garage sale this Saturday. I am on a mission to get rid of a ton of stuff. Dale is even going to sell the utility trailer. YEAH! After the garage sale is Connor's soccer game...then we are off to Emma's first birthday party. During that entire time, Miss Steph will be taking the SAT's for the second time.
I started a new online scrap class today. If you are interested, I think you can still sign up. CLICK HERE for more info.
I am loving the weather right now...and enjoyed spending MOST of the day planting new flowers in the yard.
Have a wonderful night!
Just a few highlights of the past 72 hours.
1. Had a blast on the river Friday afternoon.
2. Ate at Bob's Big Boy in Havasu on Saturday.
3. Didn't pick up phone/internet/OR camera until Sunday afternoon.
4. Received a text on Saturday that yearbook has been PUBLISHED.
5. Went to Yard House in Brea tonight, sans kids. :)
6. Today is my nephew's birthday. Happy Birthday Charlie!!!!!!!!!
7. Looking forward to a great week.
Today Miss Stephanie turns 17. Yesterday I painted a quick banner to hang at her school for today. When it was close to dusk I begged Maddi for her help, and we ran to the high school to hang it. (And then prayed it would still be up this morning!)
In a few minutes we are going to go to the school, park one of our cars in the spot her car is in, and go get her windows tinted. Then, return her car before she gets out of school for a surprise! Tonight she has requested her FAVORITE dinner and cake. (cake is called "Better than $ex cake". Will share recipe next week!)
Off to go decorate and steal her car!
Sign was still up this morning... everything went off without a hitch.
AND, she is thrilled with the tinting on her windows! yay!!!
Yesterday Dale took Emily for her Kindergarten check up. On his way home he called to inform me that she was 43 squared...43 inches tall, and 43 pounds. Apparently she is pretty tall for her age. :)
Last night while snuggling Emily put her feet up to mine. She then informed me she had baby feet, and that we should take a photo of the momma and baby feet together. (I have her so trained!) I am so glad she reminded me to do that, because I get bummed sometimes that I didn't do that for my older girls.
And, now for the recipe I promised. Seriously, my family loves this...
Chicken, Broccoli and Rice Casserole
2 boxes Broccoli Rice Au Gratin flavored rice mix, Uncle Ben's or Rice-a-Roni brand
4 cups boneless chicken breasts, cooked; shredded
1 large bag frozen broccoli flowerets
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
2 cans milk, or more to consistency
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
salt and pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare the chicken and set aside. In a large pot, prepare the rice mix as directed.Once the rice is done, keep the pot on a low flame and add the soup and half the milk, stirring well. Add the chicken, broccoli and as much cheese as you think it needs. I usually add a cup...Mix well. Add more milk to bring the mixture to a pourable, casserole-like consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour the mixture into a 9 x 13" pan and sprinkle the top with additional cheddar cheese. Bake until bubbly and the cheese is melted. (usually close to 30 min.)
This recipe freezes well UNBAKED too...If I didn't have a family of six I would probably freeze half, then bake the other half for dinner that night.
In yearbook news...I AM FINISHED. I spent close to four hours at the school yesterday finishing up some things, and last night around 10 it was completed!
Hope you got to enjoy your day!!!
Six years ago when we moved into this house I was a few months pregnant, and commuting to Long Beach to teach. I shoved things into cabinets quickly and without much thought.
My laundry room has been the WORST. Every day that I would go in there I would make a mental note to clean it out the next free moment that I got. Bottom line is I was too lazy to do it, and would much rather spend the time scrapping or baking.
Last night I walked in there to find something, and I was truly ashamed. I just had to dig in and organize it. THIS time I took before and after photos of the four cabinets.
That right side is a laundry shoot from the upstairs.
Do you see why I am ashamed? This should have been tackled years ago. Sigh.
I am making a recipe tonight that my family LOVES. Will share tomorrow. :)
In my previous posts I have told you about the Grocery Game that I play. Well, I also recently found out about a CVS game/incentive to save money. It has been so much fun to see how much money I can save each week. In keeping with yesterday's thriftiness I looked in my freezer to see what I could make for dinner. I remembered I had made spaghetti sauce and frozen half, so I pulled that out. I was one proud momma...I had saved over a hundred dollars in groceries for the week, AND I was going to eat something we already had.
Prior to taking Connor to two birthday parties, I went over to the sink to check on the defrosting progress. After a couple seconds, Dale joined me.
D: "Um, babe...that doesn't LOOK like spaghetti sauce."
D: "What is it?"
Me: "Absolutely, positively no clue. But it has carrots in it. I see orange."
D: "We are SOOOO going out tonight"
And just like that my new thrifty goddess stature was removed.
Later that night...
I was going to bed after watching Desperate when something went into my eye. (Or so I thought) It was hurting so badly, that Dale spent almost 2 1/2 hours trying to flush whatever it was out. Now, I am normally go-to-bed-by 9 type of person. So me up past midnight, and in discomfort was not pretty. Dale kept taking his sausage fingers, pulling open my eye, and squirting water into it. I am already a semi neurotic/slightly insane person anyway, and this really was putting me over the edge. He kept telling me I was a horrible patient. (Which I will completely acknowledge and accept) I finally said enough. Today at 2 I went to go see a Dr., and I apparently don't have a foreign object in my eye, but a cyst. NICEEEE.
In other news...Stephanie lost her campaign for Senior President. My heart ached for her Friday when she got the phone call. She has been in ASB since Freshman year. (one year of VP, and followed by two years of Pres.) I told her it was time for her to pass on her dictatorship. (I laughed, she didn't) Saturday the ASB advisor texted her and asked her to interview for an appointed position. We shall see if she does that. Right now I think her ego is bruised. We still don't know about Madison, as the Freshman officers aren't decided for a couple more weeks. Like I have said...another Life Lesson.
Have a wonderful night...ENJOY!
It is so hard to even wrap my head around the idea that Steph will be 17 on Thursday. It makes me sad...and I don't know why. She has always been the child that has LOVED me the most. I know that sounds ridiculous, and I know they ALL love me...
In other exciting news...
Yesterday morning was crazy. First Connor had an 8 am soccer game. By ten we were on the road to Mission Viejo to watch Steph's boyfriend compete in a Track and Field competition. At noon we were on our way home and all I could think about doing was scrapping. At three I called up a girlfriend and BEGGED her to drop off her two kids so they could play and wear out C and E. For three wonderful hours the kids played, and I scrapped. (Mind you, the house was trashed, but I could care less!) I have seen so many LO's where people have painted on a page, so I decided to give it a whirl myself.
Not the best Xmas tree, but HEY it is a start. Speaking of painting, I am going back to class May 8th. Yee haw.
Alrighty then...must get back to yearbook duty. Three more days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I say that, but truthfully this weekend is going to be busier than this week has been. However, it will be filled with more fun stuff!
Yesterday afternoon I took a YB break, and tackled my pantry. Those who have seen it (like those peeps at Darrenn's party) know that it was a disaster...it was very difficult to walk in. You KNOW I wanted a break from my responsibilities if I tackled THAT. Here are the after photos:
This pantry is under my staircase, that is why there is a odd angle in the back. (Dale asked if I had taken a before photo...no way...and if I had I wouldn't have shared. It was THAT bad.)
Now, in $$$ news, I am getting back on the Grocery Game bandwagon. I am not generally a Stater Bros. shopper, but this week their General Mills 4/$4 cereals were hard to pass up on.
In between all my carpool duties, I went to Stater's FOUR times. I am going to go again today. Most of those cereals are usually $4 bucks a box...so to get 4 for $4 I can't pass it up. My kids eat cereal for breakfast, AND when they get home from school for a snack. With four kids under this roof, I go through them pretty fast. In addition, their expiration date is not until June of 2009. Also, I NEVER have open boxes of cereal...as I fill up plastic containers with cereals. If you look at the first photo, you can see I have six of them filled above the cardboard boxes. I believe I stole that idea from my friend Pam ten years ago. It keeps the cereals fresh longer...
In other news and updates:
If you try out that WW Choc. Chip Bundt cake recipe make sure to check it after 45 minutes. Mine is always done at that time. I think if it cooked the entire hour (that the directions say) it wouldn't be as moist.
In yellow outfit/new mom/Nancy updates, I got an email from NM. This is what she wrote "Megan and Rachel are fantastic! Nancy did them such a service being their Mom. They are well adjusted, charming, beautiful and kind young ladies."
I am not a huge boohooo'er, but I did tear up. I just miss Nancy sooooo much. I realized today that NM has been in Megan and Rachel's lives almost as long as Nancy had been their mommy. I guess NM (new mom) really shouldn't be her title anymore.
Went to go take a shower this morning...and there was NO hot water. Our water heater is busted...as I type I am waiting for a repair man to come save my day. :)
And, finally...HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSANNE!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy your Friday!!!
